Engaging in contemporary art and ideas.
Situated in the heart of downtown Calgary, UAS supports emerging art through public exhibitions, workshops and educational programming, the provision of production resources, and opportunities for discourse. UAS exhibitions showcase early emerging artists as an important aspect of critical engagement in provincial contemporary art.
UAS is dedicated to transparency in what it does and achieves, as well as full accountability for all activities and decision-making. UAS also stands for the openness and accessibility of opportunities, for both the public and the arts community. These values exist in support of building audiences, communities and engagement with contemporary art, while also providing resources and exposure to emerging artists.
Artist-run Centres (ARCs) are non-profit organizations that support new and innovative practices in the visual and media arts. Artist-run centres play an essential role within the wider visual arts sector by providing an alternative to what is available in the commercial sector, and by also acting as a training ground for the emerging community of art professionals, whether artists, administrators, historians or educators.

Untitled Art Society (UAS) is a unique not-for-profit artist-run centre that was founded in 1993 by graduating students of the Alberta College of Art & Design. UAS started as a studio collective that brought together emerging artists who were looking to create a community space where they could learn, grow, and produce work in an environment that was collaborative and supportive.
UAS has had to relocate our studio facilities three times since first opening in 1993, but as a self-supporting community of artists, we have continued to survive Calgary's turbulent rental climate. In the summer of 1998, UAS moved to its current studio location, and with the assistance of Alberta Job Corps, we were able to renovate the space into sixteen studios, a gallery, office, and a fully-equipped darkroom. In June of 2011 UAS acquired a new street-level, store-front gallery on 11th ave SW. This space houses the Untitled Contemporary Art Main Space and acts as a venue for our exhibition programming as well as much of our event and educational programming.
UAS is dedicated to engaging in emerging contemporary art. Our Main Space has ongoing programmed exhibitions and we present off-site and experimental projects as part of our mandate to support emerging artists. Every year UAS holds fundraising events and actively seeks funding to aid UAS programming and operational activities. Each year, Untitled Art Society opens our doors to thousands of visitors per year in both the gallery, and the studio facility. UAS continues to seek new ways to support emerging art, from providing ever-increasing exhibition and public programming to the acquisition of professional quality graphics software, computer, and photo equipment.
UAS continues to grow as an artist-run exhibition and production facility thanks to our dedicated group of volunteers, our members, and the generous support of the Alberta Foundation for the Arts, Calgary Arts Development, the City of Calgary, and other private and corporate sponsors.
