As I mature in my work, I find that I am drawn to rural places which most would not go: Muddy ranges, abandoned buildings in the middle of what appears to be nowhere and the deep woods. I always discover something special on these explorations. I am very happy photographing people, but I will always try to capture what is unique in them, never compromising my vision and always searching for the spirit.
The lessons and reminders of nature and her creatures interest me. I believe my photographs are most successful when they show beauty but also evoke a sense of wonder and mysteriousness. I want my photographs to offer people a world they don’t normally see.
Courtney Townsend is an Alberta based photographer, specializing in equestrian, landscape and human photography.
Since she began pursuing photography, her work has consistently attempted to capture the spirit that she believes lies within everything. This is sometimes astoundingly beautiful or astoundingly strange.
Courtney works with film and digital. Corporate clients include Ex Arte Equinus Horse Magazine, Cowboys & Indians Magazine, Canadian Security Magazine, Fatigue Art Magazine, DiggerMag, Conscious Alterations and PhotoLife magazine. Her work has been exhibited in Canada and the United States.
