Calgary based artist Jake Klein-Waller presents An Idle Warning, a series of sculptural investigations into place and existence that consider how personal conceptions of an afterlife might be expressed through the physical and visual languages of the Canadian landscape.
Through sculptural representations of both performance and stillness, An Idle Warning explores the silences of the forest and the sea as a means to relocate the viewer within a personal sense of place. In a manner similar to how one might use physical objects to navigate the physical world, the objects in An Idle Warning offer the viewer a set of tools with which to navigate and inhabit a non-physical world.
Jake Klein-Waller is a recent graduate of Drawing from the Alberta College of Art and Design. Working within a multi-disciplinary approach, he uses sculpture, installation, performance, and photography in order to interrogate concepts relating to place and existence. Jake Klein-Waller participated in the 2012 M:ST Performative Arts Festival and has exhibited in several group shows in Calgary and the surrounding area.
