Uncanny is a playful mockery of our childhood experiences. Using found materials and mixed-media processes, Jillian explores the ambivalence of notions meant for children’s entertainment and comfort, which yet provoke a sense of uneasiness or fear in adults. By depicting spaces of cognitive dissonance and the unfamiliar, Uncanny walks the line between attraction and repulsiveness while playing with the uncertain boundaries of nostalgia, enjoyment, and anxiety.
Jillian Daschuk received her BFA from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 2012 and is currently studying at the University of Calgary towards a Bachelor of Education degree with a specialization in Fine Arts.
