"In this body of work, the attention has turned inwards more so than in my previous endeavours. The new work has to do with realizing truths and dealing with lost objectives, perspectives, and inherently new direction.
"This work is experimental in that it has become more intuitive (from the guts, not so much from upstairs). My mind is certainly involved in gut impulse and is often more honest than well-thought-out conceptual work. Elements of prairie life carry on through the new work with landscapes and machines. Clumsy machines are quite prevalent in terms of inefficiency, reflecting the human condition by presenting situations that in turn display vulnerability, directing ones thoughts towards introspection. Distance and life experience as an artist has removed me from my former understanding of the world, no longer a neat little package. Paradoxical balance has become very important to me; for example, construction versus deconstruction, dilapidation and deterioration, low tech/high tech. A detectable line of progression is not present – it is a mish-mash of art history, placement and displacement. I portray incompatible content in hopes of achieving a charismatic yet absurd compositional dissimilarity.
"I juxtapose folk and absurdist art as well as other styles, in subtle contradictions I find to be both inconclusive and engaging."
